Saudi Arabian Football Federation Thanks Qatar for their warm welcome and looks forward to a wonderful FIFA World Cup 2022
Yasser Al-Mishaal, President of the Saudi Football Association, thanked Qatar for the warm welcome and praised the hosts of the 2022 World Cup following the Saudi national team's arrival in Doha on the evening of November 16, 2022.
With the focus finally shifting to on-pitch events, the president, speaking on behalf of the entire Saudi football family, paid tribute to the Qatar 2022 Organizing Committee and the Qatar Football Association for their tremendous efforts over the past 12 years have produced a truly world-class match. Class facilities for everyone.
After years of preparation and only two days before the start of the tournament, the Saudi Football Association feels very proud to participate in the world's largest sporting event, which is held for the first time in the Middle East. It represents a special moment in the region's sporting history for Saudi Arabia. It provides a unique opportunity to celebrate football, share common values of tolerance, solidarity, and friendship, and an opportunity to communicate better and understand our differences.
As many as half a million Saudis and football fans from the Middle East region are expected to attend and celebrate this tournament, many attending to enjoy the FIFA World Cup for the first time. Qatar 2022 is helping to realize more ambition to make. Football is truly global.
The AFC is also aware of the non-football matters being handled by various stakeholders and realizes their utmost importance to Qatar and all countries worldwide. While constructive criticism is always beneficial and leads to positive change, it is important now that, as FIFA says, "we have a unique chance and opportunity to welcome and embrace everyone, regardless of origin, background, religion, gender, sexual orientation or sexuality."
Even in adversity, progress and a better future for the benefit of all can be achieved if people seize the opportunity of the present.
The AFC wishes the people of Qatar all the best in hosting and playing the 2022 FIFA World Cup and looks forward to a great competition for all the teams and fans involved.
